A family and their spaniel by the fire in the snug
FAQs

Dogs, children, parking, and the Sunday roast.

The questions we get asked most at the bar, answered here so you do not have to ring. If yours is not on the list, we are happy to help.

01

Tables & booking

  • Not usually for drinks or a weekday lunch — just come in. We do recommend booking for Friday and Saturday evenings and for Sunday roasts, which are often full by Thursday.

  • Yes. Tables of up to eight can be requested through the form on our Contact page. For anything larger, give us a ring so we can push tables together and, if needed, pre-order food so nobody waits too long.

  • Only for groups of ten or more and for private hire of the function room. Ordinary table bookings are free — we just ask that you let us know if your plans change.

02

Visiting

  • Always. Dogs are welcome in the bar, the snug and the beer garden, and there's a water bowl by the door and biscuits behind the bar. We ask that they stay on a lead and out of the dining room.

  • Of course. Families are welcome until 9pm, there's a children's menu and smaller Sunday roasts, and high chairs on request. After 9pm the pub is adults only.

  • There's a free car park behind the pub with space for around twenty cars, plus two accessible spaces by the side door. Walkers are welcome to leave a car while they're out in the hills — just let the bar know.

  • The pub sits in the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with footpaths into the oak combes and up onto the heathland ridge from the end of the lane. Ask at the bar for our hand-drawn route cards.

  • The bar, beer garden and accessible toilet are all step-free from the side entrance. The snug has two small steps and the old building has some uneven floors, so give us a ring and we'll make sure you get the right table.

03

Food & drink

  • Yes. Every menu has vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes marked, and our full allergen information is available at the bar. Please tell your server about any allergy when you order.

  • The kitchen is open from noon until 9pm every day. Sunday roasts run from noon until 5pm, or until they sell out — which they sometimes do.

  • Our house bitter, brewed a few miles down the valley, is always on, alongside three guest cask ales from West Country breweries that change every week. We also pour local Somerset cider and have a good alcohol-free range.

04

Events & private hire

  • Our function room seats 40 or holds 60 standing, and is free to hire Sunday to Thursday when you have food with us. For Friday and Saturday evenings there's a minimum spend. See Events & Offers for details, or ask us for a date.

  • Yes — in any amount, from the bar or by phone. They're valid for twelve months on food and drink, and make a very good present for anyone who likes a Sunday roast.
